Papers of a spiritualist, social reformer, politician, and leader of the Wisconsin Phalanx, a Fourier settlement at Ceresco (near Ripon, Wis.) from 1844 to 1850, who was also active in the abolitionist, feminist, and temperance movements. Includes family correspondence, clippings, certificates, deeds, obituaries, genealogical notes, photographs, and an 1880 autograph book, as well as three writings by Chase: "Three Lectures on the Harmonial Philosophy" (1856), "The Fugitive Wife" (1864), and "The Gist of Spiritualism" (1865).
